Barbara Shepherd

Barbara’s first picture book, The Potbelly Pig Promise, published by Doodle and Peck Publishing, celebrated book signings at Full Circle Bookstore in Oklahoma City and the Mabel C. Two novels and several picture books are in process and a co-written young adult novel is on the calendar to be released in 2021.

Writing for all ages, Barbara is also the author of the historical fiction novel, River Bend, set in 1830s Texas and published by The Wild Rose Press; a regional cookbook, Vittles and Vignettes; and two editions of a poetry book, Patchwork Skin. In addition, this award-winning author compiled, edited, and self-published four anthologies of prose and poetry for writers’ groups: Beads on a String, A Centennial Celebration of Oklahoma Stories, Imagination Turned Loose, and Voices in Time. Her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction are included in those anthologies and many more as well as literary journals, magazines, and cookbooks. She continues to volunteer in multiple organizations, has owned an art shop, has been a Field Editor for the Taste of Home magazine, and is a recipe tester for Cook’s Country and America’s Test Kitchen cookbooks and TV shows.

About the book:

Dylan made a promise to his friend, Patrick. He’s going to take a photograph of a real potbelly pig at his grandparent’s farm. When he arrives, Dylan quickly discovers Grandpa raises everything but potbellied pigs. Later, they visit the county fair, hoping to find them. Dylan sees pigs of all colors, shapes, and sizes but no potbellies. Their pens are empty!

Will Dylan ever find a real potbelly pig?

And will he be able to keep his promise to Patrick?
