Darlina’s first picture book, Space Station Vacation, was released on November 1, 2018 just in time for the Christmas season. Book signings at Full Circle and Best of Books book stores, Ranchwood Elementary School and the Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford, OK kept her busy through the end of the year. Darlina is also the author of a fictional short story published in Summer Shorts by Blooming Tree Press and two non-fiction short stories published in Oklahoma’s Centennial Stitches and Thanking Our Troops by Dorcas Publishing. In addition, she led teams of educators who designed, wrote and illustrated Space Discovery curricula for the Space Foundation, Ignite the Imagination for Estes Industries, an official poster and teacher guide for the Apollo 13 movie, puzzles, and online curriculum. She has received multiple awards for her work.
About the book:
Alec loves outer space! So on Christmas break he stows away on a rocket headed to the International Space Station. When he arrives, Alec builds a comfy nest of wires and settles in for an epic vacation. But soon, the space station’s robot arm, the exercise equipment, and even the toilet, all go crazy!
Uh, oh. Houston, we’ve got a problem.
Who will save five astronauts and one small mouse from total disaster?

Darlina earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Colorado College and her Master’s Degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of Colorado. She taught science at most grade levels, including the graduate level. Her favorite subjects are biology, space and art. When she gets a chance to combine the three subjects, she is ecstatic. Writing is a way for her to integrate the subjects and she focuses her stories on futuristic and fun adventures. Darlina worked at the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs, developing curricula and teaching educational programs for NASA. She has worked extensively with National and State Education Standards and with STEAM. She’s eager to speak with students of all ages.
